Jack Pransky Trip Blog Australia Tuesday February 20
Tuesday, February 20. At about 3:30 AM my phone rang. Some telemarketer from the United States! I couldn’t believe it. It had woken me up out of a sound sleep and now I couldn’t get back to sleep, probably because I had to wake up anyway at 5:00 to be picked up to get to the airport. So after lying there a while I got up and got all my stuff together to leave. Joanne very kindly picked me up and drove me to the airport. She has really been wonderful to me. This was a very nice week in the Perth area. I really like it there. Then I boarded the flight to Melbourne. New territory for me. I fell asleep right away on the flight but got awakened fairly early into it by a flight attendant handing me my food. I’ve discovered the wonders of getting a special gluten-free meal on airplanes; they are not that good, but my stomach doesn’t have to suffer now on long flights, so they are worth it to me. On the flight I watched a movie called, The Jungle, a true, very harrowing story of three guys who got lost and then separated in the Bolivian jungle. It is absolutely amazing what some people have to endure in life, and even more amazing what they can endure when put to the test or forced to. That made the flight go quickly. Fiona picked me up at the other end. She asked me if I wanted to go into the city of Melbourne, because we had a 2 hour drive to get to Mount Martha. I decided to pass on going into the city, and as it turned out we ran into heavy traffic going through it. Melbourne is big! I had forgotten whether Fiona had asked me previously whether we could teach together, as she arranged for this weekend to happen and had gotten trained by George and Linda Pransky, so I asked her during the drive, and to my great relief she said yes, we would be teaching together. What is a great about that is not only is this a three-day training and she has 45 people attending, but my teaching had been feeling a little stale in Perth (only to me; others didn’t notice). Now, teaching with someone else, especially someone I’ve never taught with before, will keep me fresh. When we arrived at Mount Martha Fiona took me shopping so I could get food for the week. While we were in the supermarket, some man seemed to kind of go crazy there and was screaming at the top of his lungs and ready to fight anyone in his path. We didn’t know what was going on, but I think they called the guards to get him out of there. Poor guy. Then Fiona drove me by her house on my way to my new digs. Mount Martha is right on the coast, and this coast reminds me of Big Sur in California. That’s how beautiful it is here. And very peaceful. Just what I need. The Airbnb that I’m staying in is much nicer than what I stayed in near Perth, but here I only have a private room in a Yoga teacher’s house, so there isn’t that much privacy and I have to share her kitchen, and the bathroom is out of my room. So that’s not ideal, but she lets me keep to myself. After Fiona dropped me off, I took a long walk to the beach in time to catch the sunset. Very peaceful and beautiful, so all in all I’m quite happy here.
