Another Spain Trip – November 2, 2018
Friday, November 2. Today was an absolutely delightful day. Sally and Mick conspired to organize a bicycle trip up into the mountains. About 20 people wanted to come. The tour people drove us way up into the mountains near Alicante, put us onto their bicycles and into their gear, gave us warm clothes because it was really cold up there, and then set us free to ride down the mountain, one van in front of us, one van behind us. We hardly pedaled at all because it was all downhill and some places were really steep with some hairpin turns. But we had good brakes. The scenery was gorgeous. They stopped and showed us some sites. We ate the lunch on top of the mountain; I had chicken soup, which was perfect for the cold. I loved it. We only had one mishap, but it was a dramatic one. Oliver stood at the side of the road with video phone in hand and told some people to wave as they went by. Raizel waved, lost concentration for a moment, her foot came off the bike pedal, her hand came off the brake and she bit the dust. We saw Oliver’s video afterwards and it looked bad. Luckily, she got away with just a few scrapes and bruises, and was very soon back on her bike again. Whew! Could have been bad. We got back at about 5:15, which allowed time for me to take a bath, then get dressed and walk the 15- 20 minutes over to the other hotel for the first Viva meeting with speakers by 6:30. It was so wonderful to see everyone coming in new for the Viva event.
