European Tour Day 51: Back to the UK
Day 51, April 19.
Nuno drove me to the cute little town of Santa Tiersa (I probably spell all these Portugese names wrong, just like I spelled Nuno’s last name Arrais wrong and Phillipa’s name wrong) where I introduced Nuno to the concept of brunch, which he thought was the funniest thing.
Yesterday when we were in Lisbon Nuno had pointed out a café with a line around the block of people waiting to get in to try a little custard-like pie-cake called a Nata, which Portugal is famous for, so when Nuno pointed one out here in a bakery I had to try it, and I instantly knew what the fuss was about. It was really delicious.
They were having a small Medieval festival there at the time and it was strange and interesting seeing everyone walking around in Medieval clothes. Then he drove me back into Porto—I love that city—and then to the airport.
Back on the right
And suddenly I’m on the last leg of my journey, back where I started in the UK. Amazing, but I’ve still got miles to go before I sleep—15 days worth of almost constant moving.
Denise Holland picked me up, whom I had met very briefly at the Minneapolis 3PGC Conference when she came up to me thanking me for writing my book. That’s always such a nice thing to hear.
Everyone is now speaking English again and driving on the right (but not correct) side of the road.
I went from one very gracious host in Nuno to another in Denise—from the world of music to the world of sports, which is Denise’s specialty. Not too long ago she was the coach of the Scottish national Net Ball team, a sport with similarities to the way girl’s basketball used to be played in the 50’s and 60’s, but with a lot more action. She since started a 3P-based sports coaching practice called Class Performance.
