Jack’s EUROTRIP BLOG, MAY 13, 2018
Sunday, May 13. I slept for nine hours! Woke up feeling really rested, like I had come back into my body and could function again. Good thing, too, because this was the first day of the 3PUK conference, and it was a real nice first day. Always at these things it’s like old home week for me, and a lot of people come up to me and tell me how much they appreciate and got a lot out of my books and videos, which always has a nice feeling attached. First thing, Julian Frazer, the main conference organizer came up to me and told me I needed to get to the book stand table, because even though my books had arrived, they didn’t know how much to charge for each. I had to go down and do that while the rest of the conference was starting. There, I bumped into Sheela Masand and Sue Pankiewicz, who had their table promoting their Viva Event set up next to the bookstand. It always gives me a warm feeling to see both of them. Then I went up for the opening talk, a presentation by Jacqueline Hollows and a member of the Beyond Recovery prison program whose life had completely changed, who stole the show. I love stories of transformation like that. Jacqueline gave me a plug during her talk, saying that I was the one who encouraged her to do research for this project and she was really grateful for that. I had agreed to meet a woman named Laura for lunch, who had been in my training group in Melbourne, Australia, had just moved back to the UK and was hoping I could introduce her to some Three Principles people here. Laura had only been exposed to the Principles at that training in Melbourne a few months ago, got affected, and now she was at the conference. So I did introduce her to a few people. After lunch I started getting tired again, so I went up to the presenter’s room and lay down on the floor for a while to take a little nap. I don’t know if I actually slept but it was enough to rejuvenate me. So I missed that session. Then as I was walking to the room for the next session, Katie, one of the conference organizers told me that David Banks, Syd’s son, was looking for me and wanted to talk with me. I think this might have been the first time Dave ever came to a conference. I hadn’t met Dave before, but we’d had a couple of good phone conversations, mostly around Linda Quiring’s work. So that was nice. Then we heard Dicken Bettinger’s talk, which was really good. At the end of the conference day I stood outside as everyone was leaving and talked with my friends, Holly and Sally—great to see both of them. Then all the presenters got in a van, and we drove the to our new digs, the Hendon Hall Hotel. At dinner, as I sat next to Brooke Wheeldon-Reese, she introduced me to Nicola, who said she was wanting to meet me because due to some serendipitous work with Brooke, she was now using my book, Parenting from the Heart in a virtual course where she has reached over 1000 parents already! Very impressive! Warmed my heart. I volunteered to do a guest appearance on one of her sessions. I also talked with Mara Gleason, who will be presenting with me on Wednesday, and Stephanie Fox, who will be presenting with me in Israel. Then I went up to bed for an early night and was so excited to see that the Boston Celtics playoff game was going to be on tonight not too late. But my laptop was about to run out of battery. I searched for my charger cord. Couldn’t find it! Oh no, I must have left it at The Grove! So I spent the next hour not watching the game but calling The Gove. It took them a while but they finally found my cord. Then I had to figure out how to get it over here. A taxi would cost at least as much as buying a new cord, and a courier was even more expensive. I finally settled on asking Katie, the conference presenter organizer, if she had any ideas, but it was late and I couldn’t do that until the morning. Except for that, it was a really nice day. I also had to take care of a personal relationship issue that ended up very well.
