European Tour #3 – Mouse Island, Sweden
Day 44. May 25. Wednesday.
OMG, I cannot believe how beautiful Richard’s island is, named Muso—Mouse Island, but I didn’t see any mice. When one walks up to Richard’s summer cottage from the dock it looks nice, but until we walked around the island I had no idea of its beauty. It reminds me of Acadia National Park in Maine, only the hills are a lot smaller. In fact, this whole area reminds me of Maine. I couldn’t stop taking pictures!
We walked for a couple of hours, then decided to go over to the mainland to retrieve the food Kim had forgotten. So we hopped on Richard’s boat, and after a little adventure because somebody forgot to untie one of the ropes as we took off, and the wind was really whipping up waves—wow, Kim moves as quick and graceful as a cat when she’s on a boat and has to rush into action—docked at Langesjo and drove to Grebbestad, a nice little seaside town where she lives.
Richard wanted me to eat in a special restaurant there, and special it was. They only serve two dish options, and we all had a fish stew that was out of this world. I have loved food so much on this trip it shows.
We then got back in the car, jumped back on the boat (literally), and spent a quiet afternoon back on the island. Richard has a very special room in a building by his pier where he writes that he doesn’t allow anyone into, not even Kim, but he really wanted me to use it. So instead of taking a nap I brought my laptop down there and spent the afternoon writing on my new book, overlooking the sea. So peaceful, so beautiful! As usual, Richard knows what he is talking about, and I was honored that he let me use his hallowed space. I spent almost three hours down there writing, barely moving a muscle except my fingers. (I know that part is not particularly good for me.) Came back up to the house and it was time to eat another delicious meal. Somebody pinch me. I’m so glad I came up he
